If you are thinking of taking some time out in 2019 to enjoy a few rounds in the sunshine, here's a look at some of the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol, and any competitions they are hosting.

Marbella Club

Founded in 1954, this 18-hole golf course was designed by the late Dave Thomas, a former member of the British Ryder Cup team.  Set back from the coast to the north of Benahavis, it has gently undulating fairways and well-placed water features, and enjoys spectacular views of Gibraltar, the North African coast and the surrounding mountains.

La Cala de Mijas

One of the biggest golf resorts on the Costa del Sol, La Cala de Mijas boasts three stunning courses.  Campo Europa is the least demanding with broad and flat fairways, Campo Asia is regarded as the most difficult, while intermediate players can enjoy Campo America, a long course with wide fairways and stunning sea and mountain views. It also has an attractive clubhouse and restaurant and spa, and is one of the best golf hotels on the Costa del Sol.
The main competitions taking place this autumn:

  • The XV LaCala GolfWorld Open 25th - 29th November, open to players (male & female) of any age, with International handicap

  • The Heineken End of the Year tournament on the 31st December is one of the best mixed pairs tournaments on the Costa del Sol

Finca Cortesin

Referred to by Conde Nast Traveller as 'one of Europe's smartest places to escape to', this club is located in Casares towards the western end of the Costa del Sol and is a sophisticated resort among the best golf hotels in Costa del Sol, with a course ranked the fifth best in Spain.  Despite only being built in 2006, its fairways are lined with cork and olive trees.   Its world-class 18-hole course is, at 6,800 metres, one of the longest in Europe.

Golf Torrequebrada

Said to be one of the finest courses in Europe, Torrequebrada in Benalmadena is also one of the best-located, just a 20-minute drive from Málaga airport, Torremolinos and Fuengirola.  The course has large and undulating greens, strategically placed bunkers and lakes, and palm trees, pines and olive trees, and benefits from both sea and mountain views.

With so many golf courses on the Costa del Sol, keen golfers are spoilt for choice.  Why not join them, and soak up some autumn sunshine playing a few rounds on the ever-popular Costa del Golf?
