On opening day in October 2000, Hamanasi Resort’s 25 staff members welcomed guests to eight exquisite rooms on 20 acres of littoral forest. Today, the resort has 125 employees caring for 30 acres of tropical paradise with 25 rooms, including 13 private treehouses – the first resort in Belize to offer these unique accommodations – two honeymoon suites and 10 beachfront rooms. In 2010, the resort added an onsite organic garden, growing more than 35 crops in 40,000 square feet with no artificial fertilizers or pesticides. Just this year, the resort completed 10,000 square feet of renovations and additions to the Great House, while remaining committed to a sustainable process. Along the way, Hamanasi has earned a lot of “firsts”, including becoming the first beachfront resort in Belize to receive Green Globe certification, earn Sustainable Tourism International’s STEP Bronze Level Eco-certification and become “Certified Organic” by the Belize Organic Alliance.
