England vs Uruguay Preview

Tom Unwin

England face Uruguay at 20:00GMT this evening in what has become a must win match for Roy Hodgson's men if they want to hold any chance of qualifying for the latter stages.

After a 1-2 defeat to a well organised and experienced Italian side, where defensive problems were the root of their problems, and similar to Euro 2012, the irresistible Andrea Pirlo proving to be too much for England's midfield. Uruguay on the other hand, have plenty of their problems after a poor 1-3 defeat to Costa Rica last week, in which their own defensive problems were highlighted by former Arsenal striker Joel Campbell.

The game should be a highly entertaining encounter, with two average defensive units, Luis Suarez back for Uruguay who will improve their firepower immeasurably and Wayne Rooney is expected to be utilised in a number 10 role behind last weeks goalscorer Daniel Sturridge.
